The Aquavikes had an outstanding week. On Tuesday, January 26, the team honored its seniors, Jessica Hile,  Sarah Campbell, Sydney Brault, and Gabbie Eismann as they competed against Village Academy and Madison Christian. The girls took the win with 133 points.

Burgers, salads, fruit bowls, wraps, yogurts, nuggets, and fries are just a few of the many food options at McDonald’s. Although this variety might look appealing at first, the company’s sales have taken an embarrassing plummet in recent quarters as the more successful fast food chains have moved toward product specialization.

When I learned that the Middle School Musical, “The Little Mermaid Jr.,” was sold out for both nights, I prepared myself for an excellent show. But I didn’t prepare myself enough. Our school’s first-rate production far exceeded my expectations.

The Winter Formal Committee promised a Winter Wonderland themed event, and that is exactly what Columbus Academy students received. All eager dancegoers’ jaws hit the floor when they walked in to the Athletic Entrance and found a lodge, Santa’s sleigh, and hundreds of paper snowflakes hanging from above.

On Friday, January 22, the Aquavikes defeated Bexley and on January 23, the team won the Mini-Invitational against 4 other teams.

On Tuesday, January 19, the girls played Worthington Christian for a second time around. After a tough fight, the Vikes ended up losing to Worthington Christian 63 to 36. Savannah Childress’19 scored 23 points, a new personal record in the Worthington Christian game.

On Friday, January 22, the boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 53-43 win against West Jefferson. The largest student section of the season, along with an ESPN desk and commentators, came out to support seniors Jack Mills, Jake Mitchell, Sam Tuckerman, and Matt Watters.

With so many diners focused on organic, natural food, Herb N’Cafe sets a high bar. Its creamy, cinnamon-spiced sponge cake and warm raspberry chocolate cake are customer favorites, along with many vegetable-based meals in flavorful, creative combinations. In their January 23 match against Briggs Columbus, the Vikes finished 4th out of 9 teams. Calvin Wuorinen’16 and Josh Pearson’18 both won their weight class. Wuorinen was undefeated in all five of his matches. Pearson was also undefeated with a record of 3-0.

On Saturday, January 16, President Obama declared a state of emergency in Flint, Michigan. It was determined from comprehensive testing that the water in Flint was contaminated with dangerously high levels of lead, which is dangerous and has been known to cause learning disabilities in children and potentially fatal lead poisoning.
