Students Step for Black History Month

On Monday, February 22, a group of students will perform a stepping routine for the Black History Month assembly. Stepping is a form of dance using the hands and feet to make music and is a unique aspect of African American culture.

Middle School Strings Fest a Success

A full-sized orchestra is usually made up of 70-100 musicians. In school-aged orchestras, these numbers can be even fewer. Each year, Academy’s middle school orchestra teams up with Wellington and CSG’s middle school orchestras to form one group of around 150 musicians.

Academy Bands Travel to Washington, DC

On Sunday, January 10, 55 students traveled to Washington, DC for the bi-annual band trip. With over 40 instruments, including six drums, we embarked on the 9-hour bus ride, that was followed by watching an intense and impactful performance of West Side Story at the Signature Theatre.

Jazz Concert Wows Audience

The Columbus Academy Jazz Band held its fall performance on Friday, November 20. Jazz Band concerts are unusual in terms of musical performances at Academy, due to the relaxed, slightly more casual vibe. The concert certainly showed the students’ dedication to their music, with seven songs on the program and countless solos among those songs.
