Cross-Country: McGowan Invitational

On Saturday, September 12th, the boys finished 2nd  with a score of 63, just behind Leesburg Fairfield, who earned 52 points, and the girls placed 7th as a team with 169 points. Audrey Grammel’17 had an amazing second-place finish individually, with a time of 20:17.47.

Cross-Country Welcomes New Coach

Denny Hammond, a former teacher and coach at Reynoldsburg is Academy’s new cross-country coach. Captain Andrew Heermann’16 says, “He is tough and experienced and knows what he is doing.”

Two Losses for Volleyball Team

The girls volleyball team lost two games last week. Its first rival was Worthington Christian on Tuesday, September 1. Though each set was close, Academy lost in straight sets  (losing the first three).

Girls Tennis Strikes into the Season

On Tuesday, September 1, the girls tennis team had its third match of the season and swept the courts with a whopping 5-0 win. Georgia Tuckerman’18 won 1st singles with scores of 6-0 in both sets. Golf’s Hot Start to the Season

The Vikings placed second in the MSL preseason tournament, losing to Bexley. Academy won its own tournament at Columbus Country Club by 2 strokes ahead of Wellington.  Captain Vincent Dong’16 shot a tournament-low 69.

Football’s 2015 Team of 38 Players

Dedication describes this year’s football team.  August 1st may have been the technical start date of pre-season, but the Vikings were working hard long before this, spending their summer days in the weight room and on the field.

Field Hockey Begins Its Season with Three Wins

The Vikings trumped Worthington Kilbourne 4-0 on August 25. With goals from Alyssa Edwards’16, Grace Geiger’16, Natalie L’Hommedieu’17, and Avie Smith’19, the team showed great depth as an offensive unit. While there were some stray breakaways from Kilbourne, the defense held its composure and handled these gracefully.

  Seven new members have been added to Academy’s varsity field hockey, six of whom are 9th graders, which assures Coach Horton she will have a strong team over the next four years.
