American Pharoah provided a fairy tale ending to his magical season, easily cruising to a victory in the Breeder’s Cup Classic. The three-year-old colt blazed through the 1.25-mile long course on Saturday, October 31, in a record 2:00.7 minutes. The Triple Crown champion collected 5 million dollars en route,  capping off a historic year and career.

Earlier in this calendar year, American Pharoah made history by winning the elusive Triple Crown, sweeping the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.  It had been 37 years since the last horse, Affirmed, won the crown in 1978, making American Pharoah’s feat all the more impressive.

50,155 fans packed into the track at the Keeneland Race Course, eager to see the legendary horse’s final ride. He did not disappoint, leaving his trainer, Bob Baffert, and owner, Ahmed Zayat, in an ecstatic state. Both men had ridden the extreme highs with American Pharoah and the success (and money) of the Triple Crown. They, and jockey, Victor Espinoza, deserved that special, triumphant moment.

For it again may be many years before another horse replicates American Pharoah’s feats of endurance.
