From 6-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, Service Board hosted its annual “Night In,” led by shapers Lara W., Miranda B-Y., Maddie E., Mmesoma N., and Katie N.
The event began with a presentation from Susan Swinford and Emily Rials’07, founders and directors of Columbus Food Rescue, a program that fights local waste and food inequity by rescuing excess food and re-distributing it to shelters, agencies, and other community groups.
After the directors; introduction, volunteers divided into groups, with tasks of sorting dry food items, canned goods, and other perishables along with collections the school’s Blessing Boxes. One group set up the mock-shop to make the Barton room resemble a store for the 7th graders who will can shop for the sponsored families.
Lara W. says, “ The Night In was really fun, and I loved listening to our speakers and discovering the importance of food rescues.”
