The Student Council schedules the annual “First Friday” tailgate for the first home football game every year, but the Charlie David Dinner interrupted the annual event. However, with the help of Katie J. and Melanie Q., Friday, October 20 unlocked a new tradition: “Final Friday.”

Co-President Angela H. pitched the “Final Friday” idea, but instead of the usual whiteout tradition, the Halloween theme included a variety of Halloween costumes and candy from each of the ten clubs–Art Society, Banana Split, BOS, Ceramics, EAST, Ice Skating, Mock Trial, Ski, Student Council, and Women in STEM–which received a mini grant from Student Council. Students roamed around the Junior Lot from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., visiting each club’s car trunk for candy; hence the name, “Trunk or Treat.”

From making signs for players to collecting candy from each car, the importance of the traditional tailgate is to promote unity among Academy students. Melanie Q. said, “While the tradition was not what we originally planned, it turned out to be even better! We loved seeing everyone show up with costumes and supporting the football team.”
