On February 12, Upper School music students participated in its 17th year of competition in the Ohio Music Educators Association’s (OMEA) Solo and Ensemble Competition at Reynoldsburg High, where each soloist and ensemble receive rankings from 1 (superior) to 5.
Students in orchestra (12), Choir (19) and Band (35) participated.
Orchestra director, Mr. Wong, is said he “really proud of all [my] students who decided to participate. They all did a wonderful job and committed a sizable amount of time over the last couple of months preparing for it.”
Choir instructor, Ms. Brooks, views the contest as “a fun time to get some feedback from somebody other than your director. A lot of individual work goes into it and it takes a lot of courage to participate.”
Band teacher, Ms. Sneeringer, says, “Students learn non-verbal communication, problem solving, independence and reliability, and how to ebb and flow in leadership roles.”
Columbus Academy will post the contest results on the school’s Instagram account.
