To those of you who are new to our community,The Academy Life is the student newspaper of Columbus Academy. We have been enjoying an online-only platform since November 28, 2011. Unlike many other student publications, ours is the product of a zero-period journalism class rather than an extracurricular group. We strive to be the voice of the student body here as we aim to bridge the gap between journalism education and implementation.
Currently, we are in a transition phase, tweaking our website to give you the best content possible.
Our homepage will soon consist of five newly-defined sections: Arts and Entertainment (A&E), News, Opinion & Editorial, Sports, and Tech. A&E (formerly two sections: Arts and Local) features lifestyle information.
Whether you’re looking for local restaurant reviews, someone’s thoughts on a new album, or updates about Academy’s various arts programs, A&E has it all.
News is where you’ll find the facts of school-wide, local, national, and global issues and events.
Our Opinion & Editorial section is home to pieces by our staff writers as well as editorials stamping the stance of The Academy Life on various current events and issues.
Sports is dedicated to covering Academy-specific sporting events.
Finally, we will be welcoming our Tech section to the main menu. Tech, championed by editor Raymond Cao’17, specializes in giving you the most current news in this subject area.
Our Broadcast team produces bi-monthly, informative and entertaining videos that we show during Upper School assemblies.
The Media Team posts its work on our Facebook page.
You can also check Twitter for sports scores and other school news updates.
“This Week at Academy,” our weekly email newsletter, will also be moving to a new platform. We are excited to announce our MailChimp version. We thank you for your patience as we navigate this new process.
This Monday, September 5 will mark the 88th newsletter since its first posting on January 26, 2014. The newsletter is now available for subscription for parents, friends, family, and alumni (subscribe) Scroll to the bottom of web page, type in your email address, and receive this publication each weekend.
40 new staffers will join our 23 members on our returning team. 12 editors will complete a 75-person staff of 2016-2017. We look forward to a wonderful year of writing, learning, and growing with this sizable class of new and old talent.
We wish you all an enjoyable and fulfilling year and hope that you’ll make some time for us in the coming months as we strive to bring you our best work.
