On Saturday, September 22, Columbus Academy hosted its annual apple-picking event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lynds Fruit Farm. Apple varieties ready for picking include Rome, Sun Crisp, and Crimson Crisp .
Service Board and PACA representatives initiated this tradition 18 years ago with the goal to provide fresh produce to local food pantries around Columbus.
This year, Academy collected 1,540 pounds of apples, almost reaching our record of 1,665. Four Shapers and eight additional volunteers picked, counted and weighed apples.
Volunteers delivered the apples to food pantries in Hilliard, Worthington, Pickerington, and NNEMAP. For their contributions, the Service Board volunteers earned two service events.
Thank you to Ms. Bening, Ms. Roberts, Service Board, and the volunteers for apple picking’s success.
