On Friday, August 30, the Upper School participated in Columbus Academy’s annual Service Day, or the “best day of the year” when advisories volunteer at food banks, childcare centers, gardens, and senior centers in central Ohio. This undertaking also introduces students to sites where they can complete their hours and creates a school mission-based activity to engage students and staff in the greater Columbus community. Volunteering also encourages CA students to consider the need for community involvement.
My advisory served at the Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit that houses families with children receiving treatment in the hospital. We went grocery shopping before we worked in the kitchen, cutting fruits and vegetables and crafting turkey and cheese sliders. At noon, we served lunch to the families in residence. Alex P. said, ” It was so nice to see how our contributions helped the community firsthand.”
The Upper School ended the day with Club Fair amid record-high temperatures and used a new app, ClubHub, for an easier way to join clubs.
Thank you to Ms. Bening, the Service Board, and the advisories for ensuring Service Day’s success.
