Three Wins, three losses for Girls Soccer

Harper B-M. (Milana B./Staff)

The girls soccer team battled Worthington Christian on Hondros Field on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. The Warriors claimed one goal in the first half, but goalie Taylor G. made five saves and prevented them from scoring again. The team persevered through the next half in hopes to tie the score, but the Vikes could not stop the Warriors’ aggressive defense. Ella L. kicked a penalty shot, but the ball just missed the net, and no goal was secured a goal in the last eight minutes of the match. Harper B-M. had an exceptional offensive performance, continuing to execute remarkable footwork across the field after taking a low blow. With a final score of 0-1, the girls were stuck in their losing streak.

On Saturday, September 9, the girls were back on Hondros ready to compensate for Wednesday’s loss. They welcomed Westland at 3:00 p.m., and within the game’s first 25 minutes, Haidi S. scored three goals, with assists from Harper B-M. and Ella L.  As well, Sam W. and Alison C. demonstrated stellar defense as the ball almost never crossed the 20-yard line. More goals from Harper B-M., Allison F., and Carolina M. (assisted by Haidi S.) put the Vikings at 6-0 going into the second half.

After the break, Lauren P. and Mmesoma N. pressured the Cougars both on offense and defense. Harper B-M. kicked the final goal to win the match, 7-0. It was a good day to be a Viking!

The girls play at Whitehall on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m.
