Girls Track: A loss and a Runners UP

The girls team fell behind Bishop Watterson by 21 points at home on Wednesday, April 26, despite a strong performance from several athletes. The meet started with a ceremony honoring the team’s five seniors: Sam F., Cat G., Tori R., Alli S., and Yassah T., all of whom made substantial contributions to the team and will be missed by their fellow teammates! Melanie Q. claimed first in the 800m at 2:38.67 and the 1600m at 5:46.84, Zoya A. won the 100m hurdles at 16.62, Alli K. won the high jump at the 5’2 mark, and Irena A., Zoya A., Mila B., and Caitlynn H. earned first in the 4x200m relay at 1:51.22.

The girls made up their loss by placing 2nd at the Fredericktown meet on Friday, April 28, competing against Delaware Christian, East Knox, Fairfield Christian, Fredericktown, Highland, Mansfield Christian, Mount Vernon, Newark Catholic, Saint Peter’s, and Utica.

In the 4x800m, Sam F., Olivia L., Melanie Q., and Clara S. finished in 1st at 10:36.35, Irena A., Mila B., Caitlynn H., and Sam W. triumphed in the 4x200m at 1:54.89, Olivia L. won the 800m with Sam F. following in 2nd, and Alli K. won the high jump at 4’10. The girls were runners-up for the day with 134.5 points.

The girls travel to Worthington Christian on Thursday, May 4 and to Johnstown on Friday, May 5, hoping to regain their winning streak as they head into the MSL tournaments the following week.
