After securing a three-game winning streak last week, Academy’s Girls basketball team was looking to continue their dominance on the court this week.
The girls played their first game of the week at home on Tuesday, January 19 against Whitehall. Juniors Claudia Warstler and Sophie Spolter, as well as Kayla McClendon’21 and Claire Cahall’23 all helped the team secure 41 points against the Rams. Despite being neck-and-neck throughout the game, Academy fell to Whitehall 41-45.
On Thursday, January 19, the girls travelled to Buckeye Valley to face off against the Barons on their senior night. With points scored by Seniors McClendon and Archibald, Juniors Spolter, Warstler, and Ulbrich, and Sophomore Cahall, the girls were close to pulling off an upset. The team eventually lost 30-35 to Buckeye Valley, however, leaving its record at 5-6.
Despite this weeks’ disappointing losses, the girls will look to win their two games this week proceeding Saturday’s MSL Tournament on home turf. On Monday, January 25, the Vikes will face Grandview Heights once again: the girls will look to beat them for a second time. The team will go head-to-head against Worthington Christian at home on Wednesday, January 27.
