Strong Week for CA Girls Basketball

(Andrew Barren’22)

The girls kicked off the week with a 59-39 win against Tree of Life on Tuesday, January 12 and lead throughout the game, with the Trojans always trailing by at least 6 points. Senior Kayla McClendon carried the team to victory with a season high of 26 points as Sophie Spolter’22 and Claire Cahall’23 scored 27 points altogether.

Academy continued its strong streak on January 13 at home during its Senior Night game against Wellington. Olivia Archibald, Chloe Gouhin, and Kayla McClendon scored the first three baskets, making for a fitting Senior Night celebration. McClendon scored 13 points in total, with Archibald scoring 9 points. Cahall brought the game home with 14 points, leading the team to dominate the Jaguars 52-12.

The team had its final game of the week against CSG on Saturday, January 16. The pressure was on the Vikings to continue their winning streak; Columbus Academy had not defeated CSG since the 2018-2019 season. Star Kayla McClendon scored 8 points before exiting in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. The team remained unphased, with Juniors Claudia Warstler and Spolter scoring 8 points and 16 points, respectively. The girls secured a 39-32 victory against the Unicorns for the first time in two years.

With a current record of 5-4, the girls face Whitehall at home on Tuesday, January 19 and travel to Buckeye Valley  on Friday, January 22.
