A new songwriter has emerged and taken over every major streaming platform. On January 8, Olivia Rodrigo released her debut single, “Driver’s License,” not expecting it to reach the Number 1 spot on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon music global and U.S. charts. Seventeen year-old Olivia Rodrigo has become a pop star sensation, with everyone buzzing about her being the next Taylor Swift.

Rodrigo first posted a minute-long clip of her belting her heart out to the first verse of “Driver’s License” on July 23, 2020, and fans became obsessed with the song’s heartbreaking, relatable lyrics.

On January 12, Rodrigo had approximately 19.46 million streams on Spotify, making her the third most streamed female artist on the app, right after Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. On January 15, the song has been streamed 83,454,246 times, and it undoubtedly will continue to steadily increase.

The Global Hits lead of Spotify, Becky Bass, said Rodrigo’sdominance in the music industry on its global charts is unprecedented.

With such a powerful start to her music career, everyone is on their toes, excited to listen to whatever Rodrigo comes up with next.

But with this enormous pressure one has to wonder if  Rodrigo be the next Taylor Swift or be known for nothing more than a one hit wonder.
