The Vikings Football team beat rival Bexley 31-7 on Thursday, September 16th, blowing out the Lions for the fourth year in a row and keeping the Mayor’s Cup.

Offensively, Academy took full advantage of the Lion’s soft secondary, with wideouts Durell Moultrie ‘21 and Sam Huyghe ‘21 combining for 13 catches, 172 yards, and a touchdown apiece. Quarterback Brady Hess ‘21 showed out big time, completing 14 out of 16 passes for 3 touchdowns while rushing for another, racking up 221 all-purpose yards. Tight end Kevin Reeves ‘22 caught a touchdown on a trick jump pass, while kicker Jonah Houston ‘21 was 4/4 on PATs and tacked on a field goal in the second half.

The Vikings defense stuffed the Lions all game, forcing a fumble and two interceptions. Bexley finally scored with 31 seconds left in the game against Academy’s reserves, but it was a meaningless touchdown.

Academy has now outscored the Lions 142 to 20 over the last four years and are 3-1 (3-0) on the season. The Vikes face Liberty Union at home on September 25 in what should be a much stiffer matchup.
