On Thursday, September 5, our girls returned to the court, ready to reclaim it after a tough loss to rivals Bexley last week.

The Vikes started strong with kills in the first set from Mabry Nichols’20, Kerry O’Connor’22, and Lily Plaugher’21 and devastating tips by seniors Abigail and Sophia Freytag. After a long volley, our girls secured a 21-12 lead over the Unicorns. CSG had a brief winning streak, but the Vikings closed out the first set 25-19.

CSG fought harder in the second set, but Academy put its hearts on the court. After incredible saves by Carolyn Zhang’20 and Plaugher, we were tied with the Unicorns 8-8. CSG was relentless, but the Vikes matched their energy, as Nichols, Abigail Freytag, and Sophia Freytag dashed our opponents’ hopes with forceful blocks, securing a 25-20 win for the Vikes in the second set.

The Vikes swept the match three sets to none.

The team’s record is 4-3, and the girls look to build upon their latest win with two matches this week, the first at Whitehall on Tuesday, September 10, and then on Thursday, September 12, against Buckeye Valley at home.
