On Friday, April 27, both Service Board advisor, Mrs. Bening, and Student Council advisors, Mrs. Eden and Ms. Stout, gave heartfelt thanks to their devoted teams of Angel Watkins and Neena Baliga and to Shreya Mohanselvan and Nick Robie, respectively, for a year of dedicated service. The students leaders also reflected on the value of team work they experienced, both with their fellow leader and with their mentors.

Two pairs of students each ran for heading Service and for Student Council in 2018-19 on April 25.

Caroline Mallory, Himaja Reddy, Rekha Marar, and Megan Schmitz ran for Service Board President. Each runner pledged a desire to help others and the community. Some proposals put forward included implementing a personality quiz to determine suitable service opportunities for students, using online sign-ups for service events, and working with the Art Society club to create art for charity.

Two pairs ran for Student Body President and Vice President, both of which stressed the importance of providing a better learning and growing environment for the students.

Ethan Nankervis and Julia Gurevitz vowed to challenge the unpopular headphones and video games rule along with making free monthly classes such as yoga and self defense available to the students. Neither runner had previous Student Council experience yet expressed their enthusiasm in bringing an outsider’s perspective to the table.

The second pair in the running were Aylah Mendenhall and Gunnar Geiger. Their overall message focused on Kenzoku, the Japanese word for friendship. They believed the key to success was having more opportunities to involve everyone in Student Council, whether that was through contributing opinions or assisting in planning an event.

Caroline Mallory and Himaja Reddy were elected as Service Board President and Vice-President, and Ethan Nankervis and Julia Gurevitz with as Student Body President and Vice-President in the new school year. Congratulations to both teams.
