Cabaret Proves Outstanding

As always, the upper school’s annual Cabaret’s concert was jaw dropping. The “urban sprawl” themed show, held in the Dining Hall, had a full house.

Decorations were simple yet elegant, with twinkling lights strung across the ceiling and tiny plant centerpieces on black tablecloths.

Urging people to step outside their comfort zone, Cabaret encourages students to perform solos or smaller group pieces. This year there were over 30 acts, including group pieces from Camerata, Viking Choir, and the Women’s Choir.

Every act in the show deserved a standing ovation. Students sang beautifully with piano or band accompanists, or even none at all.

The quartet, “Moonglow”, included seniors Kami Tibbles and Karina Walter and juniors Khloe Dubenion and Julia Leet, all of whom sang with nothing but the snaps of their fingers. Meanwhile, junior Sarah Morris arranged a six-piece band to play behind her as she sang “Skyfall.”

Between songs, choir teacher, Mrs. Amy Brooks, handed out arts letters to the choir students who had earned six or more points in choir.

Similar to last year, the seniors ended the program with “The Call,” arranged by Jenna Kent‘16. As they handed out their roses to family and loved ones, it was was difficult to remain dry-eyed as they said their final farewell to the choir program.

Due to the overwhelming number of students wanting to sing, the concert lasted almost three hours.

Senior Maggie McCann’s planning and Mrs. Brooks’s coaching made this a special night for both the performers and the audience.
