1-0 Loss for Boys Soccer in Districts

In an unfortunate end to their 2016 soccer season, the boys lost 1-0 to their to long-time rival Wellington in the district semifinals on October 26. Two injured players, Randy Yan’18 and Nate Goldfarb’17, both suffered from concussions.

The game was a nail-biter as the Vikes and the Jags showed off their skill and ability to possess the ball, but in the last 15 minutes of the game Wellington scored and the hope for a Vikes’ postseason was dashed.

Wellington scored off of a corner kick midway through the second half, and Academy picked it up after the Wellington goal, but it was too little too late. Wellington has a narrower field that helped shut down our offense, which is heavily reliant on our outside midfielders.

The season overall was one of missed opportunities, as a slightly higher tournament seed would have resulted in a home game against Wellington, instead of away.

Seniors Matt Cea and Kyle Vorys played exceptionally in their final game for Academy.

The team had to endure many ups and downs during the season, including the death Coach Leach’s father, but did well despite the circumstances.
