The Columbus Academy boys and girls cross country teams finished strong in the McGowan Invitational at Watkins Memorial High School on Saturday, September 10. Despite the blistering heat, the boys finished second overall with a score of 38, and the girls finished second with a score of 87.
The boys and girls teams combined had six top-10 individual finishes. Nick Robie’18, Grayson Mick’17, Nick Watson’18, and Charlie Sabgir’20 placed 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 10th respectively. Annalise Grammel’20 finished 2nd, and Audrey Grammel’17 finished 3rd.
Although last year’s state-qualifying team was made up of primarily seniors, with only two juniors and one sophomore, the returning runners hope to continue their legacy and make it to states again this year. Their strong start to the season foreshadows the possibility of another success.
Next Saturday, September 17, both teams will compete in the Central Ohio Invitational at Three Creeks Metro Park in Groveport.
