Girls Track Emerges Victorious from Quad Meet

Last Tuesday, April 12th, the Academy girls track team decisively defeated Worthington Christian, Beechcroft and Tree of Life Christian, building off of a strong start to the season. The Vikings racked up 99 points, outpacing second place Worthington Christian by 32 points.


Academy led by a big day from Audrey Grammel’17, who won the 1600 meter and 800 meter  by large margins. She finished with a time of 5:47.17 in the 1600 and a very fast 2:36.52 in the 800.

Grammel’s performance was aided by the Viking’s strong relay teams. The 4×400  team, comprised of Louise Rosler’16, Cobi Warstler’16 (senior co-captains), Jacinta Crestanello’17, and Jessica Griffin’17, secured a seven-second victory with a time of 4:44.40. Not to be outdone, the 4×800 meter relay won with a time of 11:33.29.

Ginnie Ma’19 and Briyana Dragin’18 also turned in fantastic individual performances. Ma won the 100 meter hurdles at 19.80 and the long jump with a leap of 13-04.50 meters. Dragin took home the 200 meter dash title with a time of 29.47 seconds and placed third in the 100 meter dash at 14.15 seconds.

Crestanello comfortably won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:09.89.

Despite the chilly conditions, the girls track team produced impressive results en route to a dominating victory at the meet.

Their next meet is home against Patriot and Fairfield Union on Tuesday, April 19th.
