Academy’s Debate Team Places “First” in Dayton Competition

On Saturday, December 5th, Michael Retchin’16 and Parker Graham’17 together represented Columbus Academy’s debate team at University of Dayton for the team’s second competition. In an exceptional showing, the pair placed first out of 36 students.

Students at this competition questioned the benefits of standardized testing in a K-12 education in the United States. While the pair personally favored the opposition, they succeeded in arguing both sides, ending with a 5-0 record.

The team’s next competition will be at Upper Arlington High School on December 12th. There they will dispute the same issue as they continue to establish themselves among Ohio’s debate elite.
