Golf Advances to Districts

After winning the state championship last year, the golf team has hopes of achieving the same success. Tuesday’s September 29th tournament was tougher than the team expected, with harsh playing conditions due to rain and wind, which slowed the pace of the match and made it difficult to play.  With a 78 by Sam Vogel’18 and an 80 by captain Vincent Dong’16, the team ended with 323 and finished in third place, which was good enough to move them to Districts. Coach Yakscoe said, “Our main goal was to make it through to Districts, and we did just that.”

The golf team moved up to Division II this year, so it faces tougher opponents, such as Bexley and Bishop Hartley. The upcoming District tournament is one of the most important matches because of the fierce competition.

Despite the lackluster performance, captain Michael Zhang’17 says, “It’s encouraging to know that we can get the job done, even when we have a bad day. It’s also great to know that even when our top 3 guys doesn’t play his best, our 4 and 5 guys will step up and fill that role.”

Although the odds are stacked against them, our boys aren’t willing to end the season without a fight.

Districts are Tuesday, October 6, at Denison Golf Course. Come out, and support our Vikings!
