The new Apple TV comes with many features, such as App Store compatibility. During Apple’s keynote, the apps Zillow, Airbnb, and Gilt were demoed.

The device also supports Guitar Hero, Disney Infinity, Crossy Road, and ShadowMatic. With more apps on the way, Apple’s TV could compete with big gaming systems, like Xbox and Playstation.

Aside from games, Apple will launch the TV with compatibility for video and movie streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Showtime. Searching for content from these services are made easy with a smarted Siri for navigation.

Users can access Siri using a new and improved remote control that can now swipe through apps and movies with the new touchpad at the top of the remote.

Although the gaming and movie steaming improvements for the device will not affect its academic uses at Columbus Academy, the addition of the App Store could improve the device’s function in the classrooms. Educational apps could be created and modified to fit eh Apple TV. It still needs time to mature, however, so our current Apple TVs will likely continue to serve their purpose for the foreseeable future.
