The announcement of a $9 computer is making waves in the tech world–not only for its price cut also for its capabilities. Recently unveiled by Next Thing Co, the “CHIP” is a tiny circuit board that can fit in the palm of your hand. It promises all of the functions of a normal computer along with its startlingly low price.
Despite its small stature, the CHIP is surprisingly powerful. It has the processing power for a fully-fledged Linux operating system and has the graphics’ capabilities of a normal Android phone. Plus, the CHIP only costs $19 with a VGA adapter and only $24 with an HDMI adapter, keeping costs relatively low for a computer of its functionality.
The CHIP has already far surpassed its $50,000 Kickstarter goal for the project and is currently at $451,000 with close to 10,000 people backing the project. Next Thing Co. will start completing orders this September for this tiny computer with an exciting future.
