Golf Preview

While they may not play the most spectator-friendly sport, members of the golf team are poised for yet another successful season. A year removed from finishing as State runners up, this year’s golf team has aspirations for a state championship. With over ten years of experience coaching JV and MS golf, new varsity head coach Craig Yakscoe has the golf team primed for yet another successful season.

Starting right where it left off from last season, the golf team is already 3-0 with key wins at the MSL Preseason Tournament and the CA Shootout on their home course: Columbus Country Club (The school’s tournament).  Along with varsity leaders Carter Kistler, Ted Loper, and Nabeel Khan, returning players Vincent Dong and Michael Zhang also have both played very well so far.  Despite losing key seniors Max Berk and Shabaz Khan, the team hasn’t skipped a beat.

Many tournaments will provide trying challenges, as tough Division I teams come to play against the Vikings. But Academy remains confident that it can become State champs. Says Coach Yakscoe of his varsity players, “They are a wonderful group of student-athletes who work hard, want to perform their best, enjoy the game of golf and each other, and who all want to represent CA extremely well in the post- season. I enjoy working with all of them and am excited for the rest of the season.”
