After the one of the most successful seasons with a talented and driven baseball team, the Columbus Academy Vikings fell to Fairbanks 8-1 on Monday, May 16,in the district semifinals, ending their season on a disappointing note.
Pitchers Grey Harmon’16 and Matthew Watters’16 threw 19 first-pitch strikes and seven strikeouts combined, containing their opponents to just four hits throughout the entire game. Academy had three hits but could not muster enough runs to keep up with Fairbanks, which posted eight runs by the sixth inning.
Despite this disappointing finish to the season, the Vikes are optimistic about the prospects for next year. The team finished its impressive season with a 19-8-1 record as top seed in the Columbus district. With these results and a lot of potential from underclassmen, Academy is looking forward to upcoming years of matched success.
