Awards and arts’ letters were handed out at the Concert Band’s final show of the year on Tuesday, April 12. The event was a goodbye to the many seniors who have long played a huge part in enriching Academy’s band program.

“The Imperial March,” was a cheerful opening. Following this, band conductor, Mrs. Jessica Sneeringer, handed out arts’ letters to those who had accumulated six or more points towards their letter by participating in band programs.

After a “Korean Folk Rhapsody,”the Most Improved Award was given Jack Campbell’19, who plays bassoon, and to the entire trumpet section, which is made up of freshmen and sophomores.

Senior Jenna Kent performed “Solo De Concors,” a clarinet solo that was accompanied by the band. Kent’s rendering was both soothing and melodic at times, yet her quick fingers and evident tenacity impressed the crowd. Kent won the John Philip Sousa award, which recognizes dedication, loyalty, cooperation, and excellent musicianship.

A medley of songs from the famous musical West Side Story served as a recognizable interlude between the awards and the recognition for all eight of the Concert Band’s seniors.

“Celebration Tribalesque,” a bright and fast-paced piece served as a fitting farewell to the accomplished class of musicians whose hard work was on display that night.
