A few weeks ago, I wrote about how Jeb Bush should not be underestimated. Yet, after his recent missteps and a perceived lack of enthusiasm for his own campaign, I now believe it would be best if he left the race and freed up the field for other candidates who have a better chance of winning the nomination.

His most recent gaffe came after the shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, where ten people died and nine were wounded. When asked about the government’s response to gun violence, Bush said, “Look stuff happens. There’s always a crisis, and the impulse is always to do something and it’s not always the right thing to do.” This is not the reaction one would expect from someone seeking the presidential nomination.

In addition to this, Bush is even losing support in his home state of Florida, where he served as governor for eight years. In Quinnipiac’s latest poll, Donald Trump is leading the GOP pack in Florida with 28%, and Bush is in 4th place with just 12% supporting him as their first choice.

With his candidacy rapidly losing its appeal, Bush would be better served to leave the race and devote his efforts to helping elect a Republican to the White House. He has tremendous talent as a fundraiser and could help to sustain another, more promising candidate’s campaign by devoting his dollars to another candidate’s  cause.

Yes, it is unfortunate to see a former frontrunner falling so far behind, but Bush must make the right choice when the situation calls for it.
