Melt: New Comfort Food Restaurant Comes to Short North

Remember the grilled cheese that mom used to make? After stepping into Melt in the Short North, you’ll never think of grilled cheese sandwiches the same way again.

Melt, a Cleveland-based restaurant, which opened its first Columbus location on November 15th, offers 22 different kinds of sandwiches, ranging from the “Parmageddon,” which has pirogues, sauerkraut, sautéed onions, and cheddar to the “Curry Chicken Melt,” which combines chicken in a curry sauce, with ginger and  lemongrass lentil cakes, mango chutney, and pepper-jack.

For those of you with a sweet tooth, Melt offers a  peanut butter and banana sandwich with cream cheese. If these combinations are a bit overwhelming, you can always order the Kindergarten, which is simply an old-fashioned grilled cheese sandwich.

Monthly specials include the chicken and waffles melt (November) and for this month, it is the Mighty Macaroni Melt, with deep-fried macaroni and cheese.

If you’re extra-hungry, you can take the Melt Challenge: a monster sandwich, featuring 13 different cheeses, 3 slices of grilled bread, a pile of hand-cut fries, and slaw.

Melt  has numerous add-ons, and the fries are some of the best in town. I highly recommend ordering a side of Rosemary Onion Aioli to dip your fries in.

One thing for sure about Melt is its sandwiches are so gigantic that you’ll definitely have leftovers.
