This past Tuesday, September 29, field hockey faced its most intimidating opponent yet as the girls battled Thomas Worthington on Carlin Fields to compete for the 1 spot in their division. Senior captain Katie N. said that pre-game, the team was “confident and ready to avenge previous years against the Cardinals,” emphasizing their intense practices throughout the week.

The game started slowly, with both teams consistent with ball control and crisp offense. The Cardinals took several shots on goal, pushing to get an early lead. But the Vikes defense was persistent in both saves and takeaways, creating their own momentum and hungry for a goal, moving the ball fast on offense. Eventually, senior Sophia S. found the net, taking the lead for the Vikes. Despite Thomas Worthington’s powerful shooting, the Vikings defense held them out, ending the game at 1-0.

Later in the week on Thursday, October 1, the Vikes took on CSG at home for Senior Night. The stands were packed to honor the 9 seniors as Academy prepared for a good game against the Unicorns, which began with Viking aggression as Josie M. immediately scored off a fast break, setting the tone for the game. The Vikes retained possession for another chance to score, and after a long possession, Katie buried one from far. Academy continued to score, including goals from Abby G. and Sidney J.

As Academy sails into next week, they will travel to Granville with hopes of securing a league title.
