The PGA Tour returned to the North and South Torrey Pines Golf Courses from Thursday, January 29, through Sunday, February 1, for the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, marking the third PGA event of the year, and the 13th of the 2025- 2026 season.
Forty-five year old Justin Rose was dominant, as he cruised to a 7-shot victory to earn his 13th PGA victory, including his 2013 US Open Championship victory at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. On Thursday, he fired a ten under 62 on the North Course, which played as the easier course. He backed the hot start up though with rounds of seven under 65, four under 68, and two under 70 on the South Course in the next three days and finished at 23 under on the tournament. The victory moved him into a tie for third in the season-long FedEx Cup points race and bumped him up to third in the Official World Golf Rankings, taking home the first-place check of 1.728 million dollars.
Pierceson Coody, Si Woo Kim, and Ryo Hisatsune finished in a tie for second at 16 under. Jake Knapp and Stephan Jaeger tied for fifth at 15 under. Sahith Theegala, Andrew Novak, and Joel Dahmen tied for seventh with a 14-under-par score. Dahmen, who desperately needed a high finish to help keep his tour card, entered the day in second place at fifteen under, but fell back to seventh. Seventh, however, still gets him into The Cognizant Classic in a few weeks. Maverick McNealy rounded out the top ten at thirteen under.
The biggest story heading into the week was the return of Brooks Koepka. The five-time major champion has been competing on the LIV Golf tour since 2022 and was suspended indefinitely by the PGA Tour for joining the rival tour. He was granted the chance by the PGA to rejoin the tour with certain monetary penalties, and he took that opportunity. His play was mediocre, as he finished in a tie for 56th at four under par.
The tour heads to Scottsdale for the Waste Management Phoenix Open from Thursday, February 5, through Sunday, February 8.
