Boys Wrestling Celebrates Senior Night

The boys wrestlers held their Senior Night on Wednesday, January 14, in the Barton Room against Cristo Rey. Prior to the match, senior Henry S. was accompanied by his parents, six teammates, and his two coaches to celebrate all the hard work he had put in for the team over the last four years. The Vikes came through with the victory to add to the celebration.

The Vikes then travelled to North Union in Richwood to compete in the North Union Wasserbeck Classic on Saturday, January 17. The squad came in 14th place, scoring 30.5 points.

Freshman Greyson K. finished fifth out of six in the only pool for the 113-pound weight class. He was pinned in the first round by Elgin’s Aiden C., pinned in the second round by Pleasant’s Paxton H., won the third round by pinning Pleasant’s first extra wrestler in the pool and weight class Parker R., was pinned by Fredericktown’s Clayton W. in the fourth, and Robert J. of Olentangy Orange pinned Greyson in the fifth round. Greyson had a one and four record in the meet.

In the 120-pound weight class, freshman Gavin H. went one and two in Pool B by being pinned in round one by Elgin’s Adney P., getting pinned by David T. of Pleasant in the second, and defeating Zion L. from Northwestern in the third round. In the bracket to determine a winner of all pools, Gavin won his round match against Kaden B. from Olentangy Orange, but suffered a loss in round two to Pleasant’s extra wrestler one in the weight class Krish P. 

In the 175-pound division, senior Henry S. finished with a one-and-one record in Pool C. Henry had a bye in the first round, pinned Olentangy Orange’s Nick G. in the second, and suffered a loss to Ryan H. from Delaware Christian. In the first round of the bracket, Henry suffered a loss to Miles C. Who was the first extra wrestler for Olentangy Orange in the weight class.

Josh L. competed in the 190-pound weight class, where he went one and one in Pool C. He pinned North Union’s first extra wrestler in the weight class Corey R., he had a bye in the second round, and Elgin’s Jack V. pinned Josh in the third round. In the bracket, Josh suffered a loss to Mason A. of North Union in the first round.

The team seeks success at the Gahanna Alumni Classic at Lincoln on January 24.
