The wrestling team began its season on Saturday, December 6, competing in the Paul Hackett Classic – Hamilton Township hosted by Hamilton Township, The Vikes placed eighth out of nine teams, scoring 16 points.
Freshman Greyson K. placed fifth in his pool as he gots settled into high school wrestling. He finished his matches 0-4. In round one, he was pinned by Elgin’s Aiden C. In the third, he was pinned by Hilliard Bradley’s Fabian T. Hilliard Davidson’s Carter M. beat him in the fourth, and in the sixth, Hamilton Township’s Damon R. defeated him.
Freshman Gavin H. also completed his first Viking high school wrestling meet, being fourth in his pool as he went 0-3, losing to Hilliard Davidson’s Jute M. in the first, by Hamilton Township’s Jonathan M. in the second, and pinned again in round three by Olentangy Liberty’s Blake A.
Senior Henry S. was awarded third in his pool by going 2-2 on the day. He was defeated in round one by a technical fall against Bishop Ready’s Deagan F. and pinned in round two against Hilliard Davidson’s Joel P. III. He responded well by pinning Mount Vernon’s Jace S. in round three, and pinning Olentangy Liberty’s Cole C. in round four.
Sophomore Paul A. placed fourth in his pool, defeated in all matches. He lost in round one when Mount Vernon’s Tristan G. pinned him, lost in round six due to a pin by Hilliard Davidson’s Chayse C., and again in round seven to Olentangy Liberty’s William W.
Sophomore Josh L. finished third in his pool with one win and two losses. Josh suffered a round one defeat to Mount Vernon’s Connor D. by being pinned and a round two defeat to Hamilton Township’s Jesse F. He bounced back, however, by winning his final match, pinning Hilliard Bradley’s Manis T.
Sophomore Devin L. took fourth after three losses. He was pinned in the first round by Olentangy Liberty’s Grayson M., again in the second by Elgin’s Henry G., and finally by Mount Vernon’s Fritz J.
