On Thursday, October 9, girls volleyball wrapped up its regular season with a 3-0 sweep over Whitehall Yearling. It was the second meeting between the two teams this season. The first, on September 13, also ended in a 3-0 victory for Academy. Though the Vikes entered as heavy favorites, Whitehall came out energized in the opening set, keeping the score tight before Academy closed it out 25-20. From there, the Vikings took complete control, overwhelming the Rams in the next two sets in 25-8 and 25-8 with sharp serves and quick transitions.

Morgan S. had a standout night offensively, leading the charge with powerful skills that consistently broke through Whitehall’s defense. On the other end, Nour S. anchored the defense with timely digs, allowing Academy to maintain long rallies and swing momentum in their favor. The team’s communication and energy elevated after the first set, as they settled into a dominant rhythm that Whitehall could not counter.

Senior captain, Lily T., said, “For our last in-season game, our main focus was to support each other and have fun. We were very happy to take home a win for the last time this season.” The victory punctuated a strong finish to the regular season, bringing the Vikings to a 12-10 record and setting a confident tone for their postseason run.

Next week, Academy will travel to North Union for its first playoff game. Riding the momentum from Thursday’s commanding performance, the Vikings look to carry their assertiveness into postseason.
