Double Victory for Girls Tennis

The Columbus Academy girls tennis team continued its success following 4 wins and the CBL title from its previous week of play, adding another two games onto its now 16-1 record, beating Dublin Jerome on Monday, September 15, and Olentangy on Wednesday, September 17.

The Vikings claimed victory against Dublin Jerome 4-1 on Monday, September 15, led by Gabrielle S. with a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep on first singles. Ella T. bested her second singles opponent 6-2, 6-0; however, Isabella W. fell 6-1, 6-4 in third singles. The doubles matches proved to be closer, as the team of Lara W. and Sophie W. on first doubles narrowly won both sets 6-4, 6-4. Second doubles squad Ela K. and Iris S. (6-1, 7-5) sealed the 4-1 victory over the Celtics.

Academy continued its dominant streak against Olentangy on Wednesday, September 17, once again claiming the 4-1 win. Third singles Zephyr H. and the first doubles team of Ella and Gabrielle both easily beat their respective opponents 6-0, 6-1. Second singles Iris and second doubles duo of Lara and Sophie followed with dominant 6-0, 6-2 wins. Ella fell in the first singles spot 6-8, ultimately giving the Vikes yet another 4-1 win.

Girls tennis is looking very promising this season, and its 11-game win streak will be put on the line with three back-to-back games against Olentangy Liberty on Wednesday, September 24; Dublin Coffman on Thursday, September 25, ending with a showdown against Hilliard Davidson on Friday, September 26.
