On Friday, September 16, the football team hosted Worthington Christian for Homecoming Weekend.
The Vikings started with the ball and quickly advanced it down the field, and finished off its possession with Parker S. running the ball in for a 15-yard rushing touchdown. The Warriors gained possession but failed to get into Academy’s defense so they kicked the ball off to end the first quarter.
The Vikings came out strong in the second quarter with Charlie R. scoring a 20-yard sweep touchdown. Just as Worthington Christian started to make progress on offense, Michael M. got a pick 6, advancing the Vikes lead to 21-0. The Vikings took possession once again as Michael T. zipped a pass to Gabe D-R. who ran 60-yards into the endzone, earning another touchdown for Academy. After Worthington Christian’s offense did nothing with the ball, the Vikes took control as Michael T. threw it to Charlie R. and caught it for a 25-yd receiving touchdown. In the final seconds of the quarter, Michael T. ran the ball into the endzone for a rushing touchdown. The score read 40-0 at the half.
Post halftime, Academy let up a little as they began pulling out its starters. Worthington Christian finally made it into the endzone in the third quarter while the Vikings maintained 40 points.
In the final quarter, the Warriors broke through our defence twice, earning two more touchdowns. The game ended in a 40-21 victory for the Vikes.
Next week, the football team will travel to Bexley on Friday, September 26, to face the Lions.
