Girls Tennis Claims Four Wins

The girls tennis team tallied another 4 wins onto its new win streak with perfect games against Bexley on Monday, September 8; Whitehall on Tuesday, September 9; New Albany on Wednesday, September 10, and a narrow win against the Columbus School for Girls (CSG) on Thursday, September 11.

To kickoff the week, the girls played rival Bexley on Monday, September 8. Gabrielle S. took control in first singles, besting her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Ella T. and the team of Iris S. and Ela K. both won their respective matches in second singles and second doubles 6-1, 6-0, with Isabella W. taking home the third singles victory following a tight first set 7-5, 6-1. First doubles team Laura W. and Sophie W. (6-0, 6-2) secured the 5-0 rival win.

The Vikings continued their dominance against Whitehall on Tuesday, September 9, with all 5 teams sweeping the Rams 6-0, 6-0.

Next on their list, the Vikings took on New Albany on Wednesday, September 10. Of the singles, Gabrielle secured the first singles win 6-3, 6-3, Ella on second singles 6-0, 6-1, capped off with a narrow victory by Zephyr H. 7-5, 6-4. After losing the first set 2-6, the first doubles duo of Laura and Sophie proceeded to come back and win 6-2, 6-1. Second doubles team Ela and Iris (6-3, 6-1) wrapped up the third 5-0 game of the week for the Vikings.

Finally, the girls faced their last and toughest game of the week on Thursday, September 11, against CSG. Gabrielle and Isabella both fell in their singles matches (6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively), already putting the team in danger of losing. It was Ella on second singles who fought her way to a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 victory, breathing hope into the team. Both doubles teams won their respective matches, with Laura and Sophie 6-2, 6-1 on first doubles, and Ela and Iris 6-3, 7-5 on second doubles, sealing the team’s 3-2 victory.

The girls four more wins put them 13-1 for the season. They look to continue their hot streak, facing off against Dublin Jerome on Monday, September 15, and Olentangy on Wednesday, September 17.
