As the Vikes transitioned from their 17-0 undefeated regular season, they tackled the Division II sectionals tournament on Wednesday, May 14, and Saturday, May 17.

To begin, on Wednesday, all three singles players won their seeds. Nason L. for first singles defeated his Africentric Early College and London opponents 6-0, 6-0. Jacob K. also gave up zero games against Worthington Christian’s second singles player, but couldn’t play a second match due to weather circumstances. Sujay B. earned victories against Africentric Early College and Pleasant High’s third singles players with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively. 

The doubles teams also advanced in their seeds of the Doubles Draws. Duo Rowen L. and Lucas X. won both of their first doubles matches against Africentric Early College and Worthington Christian (6-0, 6-0). Additionally, Ian C. and Jayden T. won every game in their matches against West Jefferson and Pleasant High. 

The Vikes sectionals ended successfully on Saturday, with Nason finishing first in the Singles Draw and Rowen and Lucas earning the Doubles Draw victory. To start, Nason beat his opponent from Jonathon Alder with a clean score of 6-0, 6-0. Jacob competed against Pleasant High and won (6-2, 6-1). He then proceeded to beat Sujay (6-2, 6-1), securing a spot in the final match against Nason, where Nason won with a score of 6-0, 6-1. As a result, Nason, Jacob, and Sujay all placed in the first three places.

In the doubles draw, both duos advanced to the final, with Ian and Jayden winning against Jonathan Alder (6-1, 6-0) and Rowen and Lucas sweeping London (6-0, 6-0). Rowen and Lucas earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the final match, putting Ian and Jayden in second place.

Looking forward from this victorious tournament, the Vikes take on their rivals, the Bexley Lions, on Monday, May 19, for the OTCA District final match.
