The PGA tour returned to San Antonio on April 3 – 6 for the Texas Valero Open. The players battled frigid temperatures and windy conditions on Sunday which made the already challenging golf course even more difficult. Brian Harman entering the final round held a three shot lead and shot a final round 75 to win by three and secured his first tournament since his Open Championship win in 2023. Ryan Gerard took home second place, and Maverick McNealy and Andrew Novak shared third place respectively. The tournament featured a 9.5 million dollar purse, with 1.17 million to Harman, 1.035 million to Gerald, and 560,500 to Novak and McNealy.
Other stories from the tournament included the participation of two collegiate golfers. Preston Summerhayes of Arizona State missed the cut after shooting rounds of 75 and 72. Meanwhile, Ben James of Virginia fired rounds of 68, 71, 74, 76 to earn a tie of 33rd.
Next week’s tournament will be the Masters, held in Augusta, and is the first and arguably the biggest major of the year. World number one Scottie Scheffler will look to defend his title and win his third Green Jacket in the last four years.
