Battling windy conditions on Wednesday, April 2, the boys track and field team hosted its first meet, placing fourth with 73 points. They competed against Cristo Rey, Horizon Science, KIPP Academy, Licking Heights, and Patriot Prep, testing out the waters for the season. In the running events, Chris H. claimed the sole gold with 2:07.36 in the 800m, followed by Dane C. running 2:15.12 for bronze. In the 400m, Patrick F. crossed the line in 52.23 for second, while Giuseppe P. nabbed third in the 1600m with 5:28.64. Concluding the podium finishes, the 4x800m relay also placed third, combining for 10:17.07.

MJ J. had a strong showing in the field events, securing gold in shot put (48’1”) and bronze for discus (100’9”). Brian A. found his way, too, throwing 128’3” in the discus for second place.

With several sprinters still on a break from their winter sports and distance runners refraining from their specialty events for a “workout” style meet, the track team’s performance will only improve as the season progresses.

Coming up, the Vikes compete at the annual Big Walnut Relays on Saturday, April 12, in Sunbury.
