Boys Basketball cruises past Elgin, faces Pleasant

Walking into the Mack and watching the warmups, you could tell this game would get ugly fast. The Vikings got off to a quick start with a comfortable 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Comets could not find a rhythm, shooting 20% from the field and 23% from deep. On the other hand, Academy shot 71% and 74% from deep downtown. The Vikings forced 17 % turnovers while only giving up seven.

Only three Elgin players got on the board for a combined 18 points. Nash L., Mitchell A., and Peyton Z. all led the Comets, with Nash scoring 10 of the Comets 18. Caden I. led the Vikings with 16 points, Jason S. with 14, and Anderson D. with 13. Twelve of the fifteen Vikes rostered players got on the board for the 77-18 blowout.

It will be interesting to see how the Vikings carry over this momentum against the much tougher Pleasant Spartans, whose Lathan M. is 60th in Ohio in 3-pointers made, but only shoots 36% from beyond the arc. Pleasant is currently 9-14 and will face the undefeated Vikings on Wednesday, February 26, at 7 p.m. in the Mack.
