The 2024 NFL season has come to a conclusion following Super Bowl LIX between the Eagles and the Chiefs, which saw the Philadelphia Eagles reign victorious 40-22, taking the Lombardi Trophy out of Kansas City’s grasp.
As the pregame festivities came to an end, the captains from both teams met at mid field. Kansas City won the toss and elected to defer to the second half resulting in an opening drive for the Eagles offense. The Eagles were quickly faced with a fourth down as quarterback Jalen Hurts launched the ball up to star receiver AJ Brown but was called for a controversial pass interference call resulting in a Philadelphia punt. The Chiefs were stopped on their first drive and punted. Philadelphia followed this up and drove down the field seemingly unscathed as they finished the drive with a “tush push” TD to put them ahead 7-0. Philly halted Mahomes and Kelce once again and added a field goal to their total. The Eagles dominated the remaining minutes of the first half as Eagles Cornerback delivered a Pick-6 and AJ Brown added a 12 yard receiving touchdown. The score at halftime read a staggering 24-0.
Only one team in NFL history has ever returned from this deficit in the Super Bowl: The Tom Brady led 2016 Patriots. Viewers came out of Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show wondering if they would witness history in the second half. They did not. Instead, the Eagles continued to crush the Chiefs into oblivion, finishing 40-22 after late Chiefs scores in garbage time and perhaps the earliest Gatorade shower in sports history.
This is the Eagles’ second Super Bowl victory in franchise history. This came after a slow start to the season in which the team began at 2-2 and head coach Nick Sirianni on the hottest of hot seats. Now, he has put these concerns to rest by immortalizing his team and himself in sports history.
