Vikes defeats Lions for the first time in 6 years

On Tuesday, September 3, the girls volleyball team faced off against the Grandview Aces for an in conference matchup, hosted in the Mack. The Vikes came out swinging to start the game, winning the first set 25-13, as the Aces were no matchup for the Vikings as they continued dominating and winning the next two sets 25-7, 25-18.

On Thursday, September 5, the Vikings traveled to Bexley looking to snap their six-year losing streak against the Lions. As the gym filled, both teams prepared for a fierce matchup. With high expectations, the Vikes did not disappoint as the first set got down to the wire, but Bexley eventually pulled away, winning 25-23. Despite the rough start, the Vikings didn’t flinch, coming right back with a 25-21 win in set two to tie it up 1-1. Then they grabbed the lead and didn’t let go, winning the third set by a score of 25-18 and winning the fourth set 25-17, successfully defeating the Lions by 3-1 and continuing their seven-game win streak.

The Vikings continued their hot streak on Saturday, September 7, with a double-header facing Open Door Christian, along with Northside Christian. In their first set on the Vikes won by a close 22-25, followed by a 25-16 victory, but Open Door Christian did not give up yet winning the third set by a score of 25-16. The Vikings won the final set 25-23, winning, 3-1.

For their second match of the day Academy faced Northside Christian, which dominated the first set 25-12. The Vikes followed that up by winning the second set 25-23, but the Lions were too much for the Vikes, taking the next two sets by 25-18 and 20-25. 

On Tuesday, September 10, the Vikes look to take on Worthington Christian at home.
