Every fall, Academy students anticipate the unveiling of the fall show, and on Wednesday, August 21, Ms. Eads reveals the feature: The Importance of Being Earnest. 

Playwright Oscar Wilde described his play as “a trivial comedy for serious people.” The play follows Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who both assume the identity of a fictitious man named Ernest as a means to be with the women they desire, causing a variety of challenges.

Ms. Eads said she chose the play because “We loved that, despite the script being nearly 130 years old, the themes still ring true today. Just like our upper schoolers face pressure to appear a certain way in school, on social media, or on college apps, the characters in Wilde’s final and most famous play go as far as possible to appear perfect; to climb the rungs of the Victorian high society ladder.” 

Auditions and callbacks are September 3-5, with rehearsals beginning on September 9. Students and faculty can watch and support cast and crew of the play in the theater October 25-26 at 7:30 p.m.
