Losing its three games last week, girls basketball sits sixth in the conference with a 7-14 record. 

First, the Vikings hosted Grandview Heights to celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, February 6. The team honored Alison C., Adaugo N., Eleanor S., and Sam W. The seniors and Morgan S. comprised the starting lineup, as fans, dressed in blackout.

Alison started quarter one with a bang, scoring five points from the start. The Vikes were one point behind the Bobcats at the end of the quarter, and they remained neck-and-neck after Kyndal S. evened it out, 14-14. By the half, Grandview took the lead 22-29 and continued pulling ahead, gaining 30-43 in quarter four. The girls’ relentless efforts , however, closed the gap, and the game ended in a 5-point loss, 43-48. 

After a Senior Night defeat, the girls battled Grandview again on Thursday, February 8. This time, the game ended in a 28-58 loss as the Bobcats outscored the Vikes in each quarter. With a 4-16 scoreboard in the first quarter, the future did not look bright.

Returning two days later on Saturday, February 10, the girls fell to Worthington Christian. As with the Bobcats, the Warriors tallied 58 points, and the Vikings fared a little better: 33-58. Despite trailing one point at the end of quarter one and gaining 13 to Grandview’s 10 points in the third quarter, our girls could not defeat the Bobcat’s strong showings in quarters two and four. Grandview shot 17 and 20 to Academy’s 6 and 4, resulting in a large gap.

As its regular season concludes, girls basketball will travel to Buckeye Valley on Monday, February 12.
