For its first two games of 2024, girls basketball hosted Worthington Christian on Tuesday, January 9, and traveled to Whitehall-Yearling on Saturday, January 13.
In their first game, the Vikes lost 32-41 to the Warriors. With an early 8-5 lead in quarter one, Worthington Christian continued pulling ahead, scoring 13, 7, and 13 points in the following three quarters. The score read 14-21 at the half and 23-28 after quarter three.
Despite their loss, the girls regained momentum to win against Whitehall-Yearling four days later. Though the Rams led 13-15 in quarter one, the Vikes rebounded, edging out Whitehall 36-33 by the half. Kendall O. contributed 25 points and four three-pointers, followed by Eleanor S.’s 17 points and one three-pointer. Alison C. and Caroline M. shot two successful threes as well. The girls secured their first win of the year, finishing 71-64.
Girls basketball returns to action on Wednesday, January 17, and Friday, January 19, first hosting the Elgin Little Dribbles then rival Bexley.
