Five girls tennis players competed in the Division II state tournament this Thursday and Friday, October 19 and 20. Yasemin B. & Arya C. fought through four rounds in the doubles bracket to take home the state title.
Tamanna A. was the only CA player in the singles bracket, and she fell in the first round 0-6, 1-6. On the doubles side, Grace P. & Sophie W. faced smooth sailing in the first round, defeating their opponents 6-1, 6-1. In the quarterfinals, they could not keep up, and lost 3-6, 1-6.
Yasemin & Arya also had an easy round of 16 match, sweeping through 6-0, 6-0. Their quarterfinal match challenged them as they squeezed out the first game 7-5. The second game was less of a grind, ending 6-3 in the Academy duo’s favor. The semifinal round was breezy, with Yasemin & Arya triumphing 6-0, 6-3. The partnership faced their biggest trial in the finals. The first game came down to the wire, with the Vikes winning 7-6 after a tiebreaker. However, the team from Hathaway Brown took the second set 6-4. With everything on the line, Yasemin & Arya clutched up, securing the title with a 7-5 victory in the third game.
