Another week of excellence from Columbus Academy’s girls golf team saw them win two games. The girls show no signs of slowing down as they continue to dispatch teams with calculated, methodical shooting. If they keep up their form, it’s hard to imagine a team other than the one in maroon and gray lifting the state title this season.
Our girls vanquished Bexley 165-190 on September 12 at Blacklick Woods. Eva L. drained a 37, Caroline Z. had 41, Angela H. shot 44, and Sydney F. hit a 43.
On a sunny September 14, the team destroyed Bishop Ready 130-219 at the National Road Golf Course. Freshman Eva and senior co-captain Sydney both led with 32, senior co-captain Angela and junior Caroline shot 33, and Rosemary J. and Ella T. finished with 42 and 41 respectively. Sydney just missed out on a team-best 31 when she faltered on the final ninth hole with a bogey, one over par.
With the playoffs on the horizon, the girls will double down on their efforts to win back-to-back state championships. “I’m excited for our journey, hopefully back to states as we continue to shoot and play well,” says Sydney.
The Vikes will play both contests at Blacklick Woods, facing face CSG again on September 19 and look to triumph in the inaugural CBL tournament on September 20 with a 9:00 a.m. tee time.
